Unplug Hour (belated) for Earth Day! This Saturday, April 27, 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Esta's front porch. Let's turn our electronics off, eat snacks, and enjoy the beauty of God's creation. Join us Sunday, April 21, for our Easter Sunrise Service at the Crawford Ray Memorial Garden in Clyde at 7 a.m. We'll have a potluck breakfast back at the church at 9:30, and worship with communion at 11. Warm up your "alleluias," and see you soon!
Given the heavy rain and storms this morning, we've canceled our Stations of the Cross Walk through downtown Canton. The main line of this heavy rain and storms will be over us until noon or early afternoon. The community worship service at Central Methodist at noon will continue as planned. Stay dry and safe!
Church Workday this Saturday, April 6, 9:30 a.m.: cleaning, planting, and painting, oh my! We have a full to-do list around the building and grounds, and all helping hands are appreciated. Tasks include Marie-Kondo-ing the choir room, re-imagining/painting the wall with the pastor photos, weeding/planting the flower beds, cleaning/repainting chalkboards, and thoroughly cleaning all neglected corners. Visitation for Maxie Stamey will be tomorrow, January 31, at Crawford / Ray Funeral Home in Canton from 1-2 p.m., with a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Garrett–Hillcrest Memorial Park in Waynesville.
We take comfort in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection of Jesus Christ upon the passing of Maxie Stamey yesterday, January 27. He died peacefully at Silver Bluff, with members of his family at his side. The family will welcome visitors at Crawford Ray Funeral Home, 1 N Main St, Canton, from 1-2 p.m. this Thursday, January 31, followed by a graveside service with military honors at Hillcrest Cemetery, 886 Russ Ave., Waynesville. Please lift up Maxie's family in your prayers, as we all cherish the blessing that his life has been to our church and town.
It was a surprise (although perhaps it shouldn't have been) to arrive at our building this morning and find the parking lot a sheet of ice. It's only going to get colder, so we are canceling everything for the day. Stay safe and warm, and say a prayer for all who suffer in the cold today.

Every year on Epiphany Sunday, we receive "Star Words" in worship. On each of the paper stars is written a word of inspiration or meditation: an invitation to consider how God is leading you and is at work in your life in the year ahead. Come to worship tomorrow, when we can share our experiences and choose Star Words for 2019. May the light of God go ever before us!
